If It's Illegal...

...Obviously, you should just form an alliance to make it legal, and thus prove that when backed against the wall, the only solution is the one that makes things worse.

Mr Abbott said he did not want the government to use the High Court's decision as an excuse to drop offshore processing.

“If the government wants to put offshore processing beyond legal doubt by amending the Migration Act, the Coalition's prepared to work with the government to bring that about,” he told reporters in Sydney.

Mr Abbott maintained his position that sending asylum-seekers to Nauru is a viable option.

Sigh.

It's not a viable option. People don't want it to be a viable option. The numbers of asylum seekers who arrive here illegally by boat are insignificant and perfectly within the realms of being dealt with by Australia. Rewriting policy just so it fits your personal, backwater, conservative asshole media attention screaming racist point of view is not the solution that anyone wishes to see. In fact, doing so will diminish an already struggling party's ability to appear as if it is running the country, rather than looking as if somehow it handed the reins over to Tony Abbott, and he is actually doing so.

GetUp has a movement to call your local politician. Assuming you're not filled with such extreme loathing that you've been thrown into sheer apathy and are looking up islands to buy in the tropics so you can open and a bar called Fuck You, Australia, that is.

Clarification - it's not illegal to arrive here by boat.

They're not strictly "illegals" until their refugee status has been determined.

Just hate to see you perpetuate the lie.
