A Game of Thrones

Busy busy busy, but check it:

I am a big fan of A Song of Ice and Fire. I grew up reading fantasy books, but fell out of the habit as you do when you get older, and find new authors and new concepts, but when I came across A Game of Thrones I was hooked back in, for a bit (Martin and Steven Erickson are the only fantasy series I've passed on to people in the last decade). What powers it are three different plots, each of them demanding the deaths and changes of main characters that make for a really engrossing series, and written with a structure that I always thought Martin had drawn from his days of writing for TV. I usually don't get so thrilled about TV shows written about books I dig, but I actually think this one will translate pretty faithfully, and do pretty good, even if Dany's hair looks strange.

Apparently, July will also see the release of a new installment of the series, for all of you who buy this stuff in hardcover (my love doesn't go that far).

What the shit is that first comment? LJ has really gone to the dogs.

Looks like a fairly careful and serious-minded adaptation. I'm very wary of investing any more time in the series of novels though, Martin is way too slow bringing them out and quality is on the way down.

They will have filmed five or six seasons of this show before the one after the next is written. Except it'll get axed before that.

yeah, look, the spam through here is getting ridiculous. i may just have to get my other site together and move there.

i'll ride the rest of the series out. the time he takes to put one out is sufficient enough gap for me and i've enjoyed it so far--and the show has rekindled my interest, as well, which i am sure is the expectation from the publisher.

The trouble is I'll read the next novel and probably enjoy it well enough, but we're looking at five years for the one after that. And there's still supposed to be two or three after that at a minimum.

yeah, i don't disagree there. i guess it just isn't much of an issue for me, really.

Suppose I might be over-dramatising the "pain" of the slow release of the novels. It's not like I give it a moment's thought 364 days of the year.

I do tend to side with those who think Martin is fucking around far too much with signings, merchandise, the production of this show, and side projects instead of getting on with the business of finishing his damn series.
