Bono is a Dick

After my last post, I followed a few links and ended up at a shoddy video of Arcade Fire and U2 doing a version of Joy Divisions' 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'. Now, I like the first band quite a lot, and think the second band sucks in equal amount, but even I'll admit that U2 can do a passable song when needed, but fuck me if this isn't just awful.

However, this comment by Enrieby, some random poster on youtube, just make me laugh and made it all alright:

Now we know the reason Ian Curtis killed himself, after writing and performing one of the best songs ever, he looked into the future and imagined a day like this when a total dick like bono would do this to one of his songs.

OMG that really is really, really terrible! I wasn't expecting it to be that bad!

Speaking of Ian Curtis I just saw the movie about him called Control. (Mininova is our friend.) It was really bloody good but had me fully sobbing at the end. I blame that partly on being pregnant and hormonal and partly on having known a handful of people who were just like that in their 20s.

i know, how awful is it?

is control the joy division bio that's in black and white? i think i have a copy of it lying round here.

It's really an Ian Curtis bio based mainly on the bio written by his wife and with her collaboration. Yes, it's in black and white. The director was a long term friend of the band and so it's a bit of a tribute film as well.

I used to be a big U2 fan, but they've progressively moved down my list until I really can't listen to their new stuff anymore.

On the other hand, I just saw Pearl Jam last night, and they get better with age. Their performance was amazing, really mind blowing.

Ooh, yr so lucky. Where and when did you see them?

In other news, this video is lame. Make it stop.

Madison Square Garden, NYC.

So cool: I have seen them twice (I'm in Australia) and they are excellent live. The first time they played they did a huge outdoor gig west of Sydney, and it was just amazing.

I've probably seen them about fifteen times. I joined their fan club about 9 years ago. That USED to get you good tickets. That got so popular that now I have to go through Ticketmaster, a US ticket reseller. They are expensive as f**k, and would charge you for breathing if they could.

Cool, I was a member of the fan club for a few years too, but being here it didn't get you access to tickets.

I've heard of Ticketmaster from their many battles with bands over ticket prices etc.

And while nowhere near 15 times (wow) I just remembered another time I saw them ha ha. That makes three.

And yet still, the U2 cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart sucks arse.

That's Bono' pose #24 - he has about 30 standard poses - waving a flag, the one armed fist pump - see the Blue Man Group

The variation to the one armed fist pump is to add an "Oi" or a "woh-oh" - just remembered, Spitting Image from 1987

The real problem with Bono's voice is that it's not suited to doing cover versions. As such, they should stop doing cover versions (although I did like the snippet of "Sympathy For The Devil" they used to throw in).

My LJ name is Tanuja and I am a U2 fan. There I've got it off my chest.
