I am running a workshop for two days, which pays me nicely, and takes me out of the usual grind of working in the evening, which is nice, even if I do have to get up at six am. That's a hideous time, that--the kind of time you need an alarm for. I've always thought that there was something desperately wrong in the world where you had to stop sleeping so you could go out and perform some task. Anyhow, the workshop is its usual self, which means it's about swear words, drugs, and sex--in particular, why Elton John and Kevin Rudd and good looking older men, though I personally like my old men to have a bit more wear in them. Give me an old, squinting Clint Eastwood, I say, or an old, ugly Charles Bukowski, but there's no accounting for taste, is there? Also, apparently some YA teen vampire drama called Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer. I hit the wikipedia page five seconds ago and it tells me that, because the cover of the book contains a girl holding an apple, the author has said that, "the cover represents the forbidden fruit from the book of Genesis. It symbolizes Bella's knowledge of good and evil."
It is also about vegetarian vampires.
Well, I had them read a bit of William Burrough's Nova Express, and some of them liked that. Hope yet, I suppose.
