Black Sheep is--

From Jennifer Pelland (jenwrites):

I just finished reading Black Sheep, by Ben Peek, and holy crap, does this book bring introspection and depression to new heights (or lows, depending on how you look at it). I think I'm going to pitch Machine at Prime Books in case they're looking to print something more uplifting.

Beautiful, isn't it?

This might be my favourite comment ever about a book of mine.

(See the things you find when you ego-google.)

I too ego-Google, which is how I found this comment :)

Of course, the downside of ego-Googling is that you lose context. Folks who follow my blog know that I've got a novel making the rounds that I love dearly, but that I keep hearing is too bleak and introspective. But compared to Black Sheep, it's a fun-filled, non-stop action candy ride! So your published novel has given me hope that there's an audience for my own.

And what I didn't mention in my post was that I actually liked the book (although I couldn't quite figure out the significance of some of the formatting, but my brain isn't particularly good at handling experimental prose). It usually takes me a couple of weeks to read a novel, and I got through yours in something like four days--it gripped me that hard. Well done.

hey there.

it's cool. i wasn't ragging on you or nothing--i did indeed like the comment.

i'm glad you liked the book. as to the comments regarding the formatting, i am sad to say that, in the first copies of the book put out there was a bit of a fuck up, and a chunk of blank space got lodged into it. the result meant that about half way through, a lot of odd, and completely unnecessary, spacing started to happen. that you didn't get it was quite right, since it wasn't meant to happen. the books have been fixed and the publisher was, last time i heard, going to offer a comp for the one you got, if you wanted to swap it. (or something like that, most people seem intent to keep the dodgy versions in the misspent belief that it will one day be worth a fortune...)
