21st Century Ned Kelly

Am I the only one thinking Ned Kelly here?

Also, does Robert Downey Jr kinda look like Al Pacino? I tell you, nothing's original in the world anymore. Not, y'know, that I expected such from an Iron Man trailer, but the way some of y'all been going on about it, you'd think Jesus had landed in your backyard in his spaceship.

I reckon Downey Jr is Tony Curtis' love child. Or grandchild. Tony Curtis as a young man is the spitting image!

i'm too young to remember a young tony curtis ;P

So are most people alive today! I don't know how old that man is, but he looks a well-preserved 120.

Yeah, that's true.

(I'm thinking of the infamous "Curtis bathes Olivier" scene from Spartacus now!)

Downey does resemble a young Curtis.

It's in the eyes, and the jawline. Not sure who the mother might have been!

C'mon... Iron Man is the Anti-Kelly! Ned was a poor bloke trying to use crime to get ahead; Stark is a billionare using tech to fight crime.

I'm not expecting literature, but they've already got the look right; all they need is to keep the myth roughly true to the comic and have a functional action plot, and I'll be happy.

you don't reckon when he walks out of that cell in the big suit that he looks like ned kelly?

it's all i can think of.

you'd think Jesus had landed in your backyard in his spaceship.

He did.

And he told me you touch yourself at night.

only when he's watching.

Yeah, he's no Timothy Dalton, or whoever a more American version is, that is for sure. That's the Tony Stark type.

I guess Christian Bale can't do DC and Marvel at once. :)

The rest looks like cheesy American war stuff, but the armour is actually decent by the looks.

the armour is the least interesting thing for me...

Engaging geek engines: It looks like they've drawn strongly from Warren Ellis's Extremis storyline. Which is a good thing. An action movie taking time to condemn war-profiteering would be ... nice.

i never read the ellis take. i tend to stay away from his work for hire stuff--which is kinda how i am for most of comics these days. go fig.

If you've not read Nextwave I recommend it highly. It's work-for-hire, but it's also one of the funniest things he's done.

no, i read that one. he had some samples online which were pretty funny, and i was there for it. the other stuff i've just skipped, though.
