You Think We'd Be Beyond This

Books and movies that "advocate" terrorism are to be outlawed under new Federal laws to be unveiled today.

Material deemed likely to glorify terrorism will be pulled from the shelves and banned from entering the country in the "zero-tolerance approach", Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said yesterday.

There's nothing quite so heart warming as watching the Howard Government begin another campaign of hidden racism--this one, if you can't pick it straight away, is aimed at targeting the Muslim community and their literature.

Well, that puts my novella "Ideologies" on the ban list then, given that it has a sympathetic portrayal of a terrorist in space. I are evial.

I wonder if this means that the Howard government will ban all those books and movies and such about the IRA and Sinn Fein fighting for a Free Ireland? There goes Michael Collins. By rights, too, whole wodges of stuff about Israel, the American Revolution, the American Civil War even. Oh, and some dude down under named Ned Kelly. Naw, he was white,he was just a robber, he didn't do anything terroristic...!
Apr. 13th, 2007 02:16 am (UTC)
naw, we like the irish now. they're white.

Did you know that UK fandoms response to similar UK laws about "glorifying terrorism" was this?

A similar anthology here would be possible.
Apr. 13th, 2007 03:29 am (UTC)
yeah, i remember that. suppose we could do it, but i can't think of many publishers that would go for it.

Ah, a new "recommended reading" list.
