Some Music

"I lie to you ever chance I get
and I make it close enough to the truth
that you go for it every time."

I'm really digging these Battle of Mice tracks. Bones in the Water starts off as a kind of eerie confession, and then turns into screeches, wails, and beautiful noise.

I have been using myspace, of late, to trip round the web and find new music. This fact horrifies most people I tell it too and will most likely horrify you, too, but at least I have found a purpose for the whole site. A friend of mine once told me you can use myspace to pick up, but fucked if I can figure out how you would. Anyhow, the reason for this is that I'm off the radio--I'm sick of radio personalities, sure, but mostly I just want to use different ways to find music. Now that I'm not reliant on dial up, I've got a lot more freedom, web wise, and so I'm back to surfing for tunes. No doubt I will leave myspace soon, but it's proving interesting right now.

In other news, my last two album purchases were Bloc Party's A Weekend in the City and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Some Loud Thunder.

I really dug the first Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album (it was self titled), perhaps because it came out of nowhere, perhaps not, but this new album just isn't holding up as well. If I had to put my finger on it, I'd just say that it lacks the energy of the first. I haven't listened to it a whole lot, but I've got a train ride into Bondi this afternoon, so I'm going to give it a few spins through that to get a better feel, and maybe it will grow on me (and maybe it will grow less). Right now it's kind of not recommended, though the track 'Satan Said Dance' has a cool title and is somewhat catchy.

The new Bloc Party album, however, I'm having a stronger response too. I really liked their first release, Silent Alarm, and this second album is a nice step out of what they did there. It won't please everyone who dug that first album, but I'm happy enough, so far, even if it has a bit more of a pop feel to it.

EDIT:

So I spent two hours on trains and another hour or so walking around. I listened to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Some Loud Thunder and I listened to the self titled album.

I decided, somewhere on the return trip, that Some Loud Thunder is a fairly decent album, but it is hindered by the fact that the opening track, 'Some Loud Thunder', and the closing track, 'Five Easy Pieces', are the weakest tracks on the whole album. So on the first couple of spins, I was left with first and last impressions, and that impressions was that the whole album tanked. Which it doesn't--though those two tracks certainly do.
