Saturday 10 February, 10am-4pm

Members $66, Members' concession $55, Non-Members $99. Bring lunch and writing materials, scissors and extra pens and paper.
Morning and afternoon tea provided.

In this workshop, students will be introduced to alternative ways of writing fiction. A piece of fiction need not look like, or take the same form that the majority of fiction does. Ben will introduce examples of writers and writing that have stepped outside traditional forms, while also giving students the time to create their own work. The aim of the workshop is to show that writing effective and interesting fiction need not be constrained by the mainstream ideal of a three act structure, or by using paragraphs, traditional characterisation or, indeed, characters. Students will write stories in the form of questionnaires, footnotes, dictionaries, and learn to combine forms such as plays, lists, and prose.

At the NSW Writing Centre.

(And where the fuck did that photo come from?)

When you click on the link, it says "Sneak *peek*". Is this some sort of subtle advertising?

Sounds like a great course. I wish Text:UR, The New Book of Masks was ready - you could blow the student's socks off with it!

whatever helps me sell a few books, man :)

anyhow, it's only one day, so i probably won't use any books. likely, i'll just take in a bunch of examples, and then get them to do things--i prefer the more hands on, in the mud stuff. get everyone playing with each other.

looking forward to text, tho. when's it get releeased?

It will be released the beginning of April at AWP. I understand that ARCs are already going out to reviewers. Crossing my fingers that they either love it or hate it.

you always want hate ;)

anyhow, best ith it. i hope it gets a good reception

I'm fine with hate, just so long as the review is acidic and full of bile. That gets people's attention and makes them curious!

well, i'd rather get a reaction, positive or negative, than simply get boredom. so i guess i'm with you.

Well done on scoring the NSWWC gig, Dr Ben.

Maybe the photo is from a Magic Casements event a few years back when you were on a panel?
