Ending August With Cruelty.

The other day, John Brogden, NSW's opposition party leader, was forced to step down. Turns out he was a bit of a womanising, racist cunt who was overheard calling ex-premier Bob Carr's Asian wife, "A mail order bride," while at the same time pinching female journalists on the ass while asking for blowjobs from another. Shockingly, the press ripped his career to shreds, and all that was left for Brogden to do to bring this narrative to a satisfactory conclusion was a half assed attempt at suicide, which he did.

I know. Gosh, it was really scary! I remember watching the new a few days early, and I was glad Brogden resigned, and then today I hear he attempted suicide! Wow - in a frightening way.

i must admit, i've been kind of cynically amused by it. that brogden thought he could hit on female reporters and suffer no damage, much less through a nasty racial slur at the wife of his now departed enemy... i mean, it just lacks common sense. it's stupid.

In his office? Sounds a little like "hey look at me! I'm over here!"

people were watching plenty before that.

I would never describe an attempted suicide as a "satisfactory conclusion", no matter who it is.

yeah, but i've a pretty black sense of humour, so i would. and have. :)

Frankly, I don't see why what he did was that much worse than Downer's brilliant domestic violence gag back when he was Federal Liberal leader. Sure, it lost him the leadership, but he didn't try to kill himself. Instead, he's now our foreign minister. So to go nuts over Brogden's thoughtless redneck gaffes seems a little hypocritical to me while we accept Alexander "The Things That Batter" Downer as our primary spokesperson to the rest of the world.

brogden's treatment in the media strikes me as the media making an example of him to politicians. he overstepped the line with female journalists. a lesson is being made of him (and i've heard the suggestion this is not the only time its happened). the bit with carr's wife is simply a reason for the media to do it.
