I really hate that Crazy Frog animation on the Mobile Jamster ads that sell ringtones. I hate him with such a fucking passion it's unfuckingbelievable. Whoever created that blue frog shit deserves spikes through their ears and eyes, since they're obviously misusing them to begin with. I can't even begin to imagine someone paying money for the tones he burbles out, but I guess people must, since he's still on TV with his groin blacked out so no one gets offended by his tiny blue cock.

But now the Crazy Frog Ringtone is at the top of the British music chart, beating out Coldplay's new single...

You British people ought to be ashamed.

not that the new coldplay single is something to write home about. chris martin, if I wanted 80's U2, i'd put on "The Joshua Tree". but i'll still get a copy of their new album.

i've never much understood the attraction to coldplay. it all sounds a bit samish to me, which is i guess how i feel about U2...

Anything to stop Coldplay from getting yet more credit than they deserve, to be honest.
May. 30th, 2005 10:47 pm (UTC)
think about what you're saying!

Oh no, don't get me wrong - I absolutely loathe the frog as well, ever since it was doing the rounds as an e-mail attachment over a year ago. But the fact is that, in the UK particularly, novelty-based songs are always going to Number 1. Everyone thinks it's pretty funny, they all buy it for a laugh and six months later it's filling up the CD shelf of every charity shop from Brighton to Aberdeen. So I suppose when I read about something like that frog topping the charts I just sigh and go about my day, safe in the knowledge that within a month no one will care about it any more.

But Coldplay? Their overwhelming popularity when so many vastly superior bands fumble in relatively obscurity (Mercury Rev, anyone?) irritates me intensely.

i've given up on trying to understand why music i like and respect is constantly being ignored while inferior bands get huge. it's the same with literature. i just shrug now, and so long as i can find it, i figure that's enough.

Where are we going to find the time to give the entire nation of Britain the savage beating they so richly deserve.

Its rare that I am truly consumed by hate.
May. 30th, 2005 10:47 pm (UTC)
yeah, it's rare for me too. i hate the blue frog, but i'm not consumed by it. it's just that kind of hate that's funny to throw around.

Hey, I'm a British people, and I had nothing to do with that darn frog !

(we get the ads far too often over here; they're at their worst when we're at the gym and have one of the cable music video channels on, where the ad is on every 10 minutes or so. Grargh !)
May. 30th, 2005 10:48 pm (UTC)
you should still feel some cultural shame ;)
May. 31st, 2005 01:23 am (UTC)
Yes, but Britain also boasts Alan Moore and Doctor Who, so their cultural shame ratio pretty much balances out.

I have to say that I really object to the censorship, mostly cause I missed the original but also since when did we become American prides offended by ficticious creatures and their ficticious genitals and when did genitals become offensive?
May. 31st, 2005 04:55 am (UTC)
yeah, i don't understand what everyone had to fear from the blue cock, either. the most ridiculous point of it, is that it's not censored for the whole commercial. you can still see it if you look when the numbers flash on the screen.
May. 31st, 2005 05:06 am (UTC)
Oh really? Must. Look!
May. 31st, 2005 01:38 am (UTC)
i also loathe that fucking frog but also its cousin that creepy little dragon that keeps batting its eyes seductively at the camera... *shudders*...

May. 31st, 2005 04:56 am (UTC)
i've only seen the dragon once or twice. i mainly see the other cousin, the little fluffy tweety bird.

Maybe you should try not watching television? I have never encountered the crazy frog, glad to say. Whenever I go to the movies and see a small selection of the current advertising trends, my stomach turns (same deal, mind you, when I'm forced to listen to commercial radio...)

Oh, but Coldplay... feh! Only good thing they did was let Simon Pegg & co use them to promote Shaun of the Dead (seen the DVD, watched the extras...)

i don't watch much tv, really, but since i'm on dialup, i can't get my fix of tv shows i do like and music videos without going through some of it. commercial radio i just avoid.
