Just Like Before.

There's a new Pope and he's just like the old Pope, except for that time he spent in the Nazi Youth Group. Still, the thing I can't quite shake is why you'd want to be 16th Benedict. You think you'd go for one of the lesser used brand names.

Well, he's a conservative. You don't want to go experimenting with being the third or fourth of any given name. That leads to all sort of permissiveness.

Anywhere i can get info on this new priest?

By the way, my fucking parents are pro-lifers now, apparently. Oh, and they calmly told me that being gay was unnatural. I'm mad.

there should be a fair bit round about the new priest. easy to find stuff. he was basically john paul's right hand man, and the guy groomed for the succession.

parents, man. what a dodge. you think they'd go for loving and acceptability.

Hey man,

Sorry i didn't get back to you - i'll probably need a bit longer on the artwork, i'm swamped with honors work and the play, plus i'm meant to be shooting my donor performance but my DOP keeps rescheduling! But yeah, i'll send you some stuff soon. Was there anything you wanted specifically?

yeah, that's cool. i've no problem with you needing more time (it's certainly last on the things to do list, way behind honours and shooting the film) but i just like to have things organised in my head. that way i can figure out what i need to put a bit of attention on or not.

and i've no real specifics, as i said before. just wanna see what you come up with. you've got free range, really.

Of course, the thing the media are conveniently not adding when mentioning that Benedict XVI used to be in Hitler Youth was that every German man his age used to be Hitler Youth. It was compulsory in Nazi Germany. The Boy Scouts were made illegal so there wouldn't be any competition.

If by 'media' you mean TV and radio, you may be right - but some print and online media have pointed this out, as well as explaining how he managed to quit the Hitler Youth by joining a seminary.

There's an interestind discussion about that here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/the_christian/347046.html

Not that I'm totally convinced by Christian's argument. You can't hold the failings of the youth (if that's how we define it) against the man forever.

But he doesn't seem good news for global tolerance.

oh, sure, i knew that. i read it online. i just think it's funny. if i wanted to get all ranty and so forth, i could go on about his opinions on homosexuals and pro-choice and so forth. but he's a pope, and i don't much care about popes, other than the quick joke.
