Ross Gibson, Wednesday 15th.

Ross Gibson wrote the fantastic book Seven Versions of an Australian Badland. It's about how the history of a particular piece of land has created a psychological badland, but it's about so much more than that. It's brilliant. A book I can't recommend enough. Outside that, however, Gibson is also a research professor in New Media and Digital Culture, and Wednesday next week he'll be giving at talk at the University of New South Wales.

Complexity, Change and Dynamic Aesthetics

What are the aesthetic forms -- inherited as well as recently invented -- that help us to understand complexity, change, interactivity and the investigative impulses?  And how well do our traditional aesthetic criteria and compositional methods assist us to analyse, evaluate and improve these forms?

I'm going to try and make it. Wednesday is the deadline to get the beta version done, printed out, and handed in. It's Thursday and I honestly don't know if it'll work out. I'm in the final stages, but Samuel Clemens was a bad idea that didn't reveal itself to be a bad idea until about five thousand words of a vomit draft, so we're back with Mark Twain, thus making 'The Morning City' a direct sequel to 'The Dreaming City'. The good news is it's all coming smoothly from there--Mark Twain knows what he wants, and it's the hole in his chest repaired, and his dead daughter is going to do that for him, but that doesn't mean it'll all be done by Wednesday.

oh, god. political tutes. i think i just broke out in a rash. just the idea of that in any of my classes makes me sigh--i mean, i don't mind, but when it's just sledging, i don't care for it. plus, i can always just end it in my classes.
