Trippy Terrorist Propaganda for the Day.

Well. It appears that Osama bin Laden is obsessed with Whitney Houston:

"Whitney Houston's name was the one that would be mentioned constantly. How beautiful she is, what a nice smile she has, how truly Islamic she is but is just brainwashed by American culture and her husband -- Bobby Brown, whom Osama talked about having killed, as if it were normal to have women's husbands killed."

The quote comes, reportedly, from the autobiography of Kola Boof, Diary of a Lost Girl. An excerpt is published in Harper's, from which this is taken.

It's a trippy bit of propaganda, isn't it? I really don't believe that bin Laden is sitting round talking about how fine Whitney Houston is, but even if it's true, it doesn't change the propaganda like nature of it. For you see, what this little excerpt does is portray bin Laden as a terrorist who is targeting America out of a mixture of envy and hate for their culture. He loves American culture, but he hates it at the same time. He's torn by it. Disturbed, he lashes out by blowing up buildings and sending planes to be plowed into the World Trade Centre, instead of Houston's house. It is the conservative party line laid out: terrorists hate us because they envy our freedom. Even if it is, in this case, the freedom to hear Houston's bland pop, and to have a little sexual fantasy about what it would like to fuck her.

The Amazon Page of Ben Peek

I have created an Amazon Author Blog Page, because I can.

Actually, I saw that Paul Haines (paulhaines) had done it, and figured it would be a bit of fun. It's disgustingly time consuming to set it up, what with all its verifications, but I did it, and now you can pretty much find the anthologies and books of mine in one easy to use directory. Which isn't much, is it? It feels kind of unnecessary, but maybe it'll prove to be interesting.

I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with it, really. I might leave it static. I might not. I have a myspace page I'm still trying to figure a use out for, and a couple of others things I've signed up for over the years. I keep thinking that I really am going to have to build a permanent page on the web, and move this blog into that. But there doesn't seem to be any kind of rush on it. However, if I do begin using the Amazon blog, I've set up a feed bpeekamazonlive which you can sign up too if you've got the interest.

And now, back to work.
