Tonight, Aurealis Awards (Updated with Winners)

Well, tonight the Aurealis Award winners will be announced. Might've already happened. Who knows. I got to admit, I'm a bit curious to see who has been golden showered, but no one should be surprised by this, given that I wrote a review of the stories nominated. Caused a bit of tension and name calling. People are still holding grudges over that, believe it or not, and they'll probably still be holding them tomorrow after everything is said and done. Makes me laugh, really.

Anyhow, if you can't get enough of this debate, or want to go and discuss it in light of there being winners, the Nova Mob in Melbourne are dedicating their March meeting to the Aurealis Awards, with my article being pre-reading. Details have been sent to me by Julian Warner, and they are below.

The March Nova Mob meeting will be held at the usual time, 8.00pm on Wednesday 1 March 2006 at the Northcote Library - 32-38 Separation St, Northcote.

The library is near the corner of High St and Separation St. It is an easy walk from Northcote train station and it is Stop 33 on the 86 tram route.

For the month of March we will be discussing the Aurealis Awards, under the leadership of Justin Ackroyd. You can take a look at: http://www.fantasticqueensland.com/~aurealisawards/ if you want to do some research beforehand. Of course, if you want to look at a bit of Aurealis Awards history, you can use Google and see a
large number of external references.

Ben Peek's article at: http://www.strangehorizons.com/reviews/2006/01/scalpels_and_su.shtml is of particular interest and is suggested pre-reading for the evening.

If you have read works which you feel should have been on the shortlist for the awards, please feel free to bring them along and discuss.

If anybody manages the quick flight up to Brisbane and back this weekend, you can tell us about the award ceremony, being held on Sunday.

A gold coin donation is expected to assist with covering costs for the meeting (we are being charged $30 rent for our room this month, which is quite reasonable under the circumstances). Our more adventurous cooks may seize our attention with a cold date finger or a hot fudge surprise or a distressed brownie or some other culinary cul-de-sac.
