the view that flannery is giving in his book, is one of a fractured society. the separate groups: aborigine, irish, jew, english, and then convicts, freeman, soldier, governor, they all are unable to find a similar group for which to work towards something in the colony. the irish tried to revolt somewhere around toongabbie, and got a slap down for this. many are the little culture infringements.
