Public Bath House in Sydney, 1880 (or so).



"A distinction should be made between Bathing in the early nineteenth century Sydney and Swimming, particularly competitive swimming. Bathing was about washing & cleanliness, and Sydney Harbour was an obvious location for these ablutions to occur. Swimming did not become really popular until the twentieth century."
