Well.

i have no idea how to make neat little links. doesn't that suck? over at mari's journal you'll find lots of neat, cool links, and over here, you will find me unable to do so because i am swamped in technostupidity.

if someone could take a moment to explain the links thing to me, i'd be most thankful.

Cute little Livejournal things:
To put the name of a Livejournal user:

[Bad username: whateversillynametheuserisusing]

Like this:

benpeek

(Though it occurs to be that if that worked you just saw "Benpeek" and not what I wrote to make "Benpeek" appear, so that was rather pointless.)

Frankly, having done that in those two entries, I might stop using these lj user things, because they're a pain in the neck.

The live journal cuts work like this:

You type:

above whatever you're going to be cutting.

If you want to identify what you're cutting, use this:

Then type your text, and finish with:

There you go!

Glad you liked the chains -- they were a fun little wordgame thing to do. I'm way too fond of things like that.

Ok, that failed, utterly and completely:
I did in fact have actual WORDS there demonstrating what I was saying. Hmm. Let me try that again, with spaces:

< l j u s e r = "Remain calm. What you are experiencing is in fact a simulation of a nuclear attack. The particles entering your bloodstream and melting your bones are not real, even if you feel stuck to your couch." >

< l j - c u t >

< l j - c u t t e x t = " Why would we lie to you? Just because we can't demonstrate LJ cuts is no reason not to trust us. " >

< / l j - c u t >

Or e-mail me, whatever.

Simply Put
You know, on the bluish left-hand side of the screen when you are typing a post or a reply, there's a section called Help & Support. The first option is LiveJournal FAQ which has a lot of things you can look up. I usually right-click the link and "Open in new window" so as not to interrupt my posting.

( coldecho does so, now)

If you scroll down to the portion with the header Journal Entries the individual questions are right there, such as "What are the LiveJournal-specific tags? What do they do?" , "How do I add a link to another journal or another web site in my entry?" and "How do I make text bold, italic or centered?". All of which are immensely helpful. I had to ask someone else how to do it, the first time, but when that didn't work I checked the FAQ. Once you're done looking at the answers or printing them out, you can close the window without ruining your post.

[Note: I have lost respect for the spellchecker on LiveJournal. Not only did it not like the words towards and amidst, but it doesn't even recognize the use of the word phrase LiveJournal! . . . Which it uses! . . . Itself!]
