Did she mean it or do you think she was just trying toput you off?
benpeek
Feb. 19th, 2008 11:54 pm (UTC)
sadly, i think she meant it. she messaged me a couple of times afterward to see if i wanted to go out again, even.

I sort of rank that up there with people who want to know your astrological signs and give you tarot readings.

that i have no problem with. if she had asked for a tarot reading, i could have even provided it.

I love the way Anna's drawn your smile! It looks like your teeth are about to break, you're clenching them so hard.

Those are good too. But I love the way she's captured that expression of pure, polite pain.

You'll have to forgive me for asking, thanks to my cultural references on people who pray five times a day. Was she some kind of Muslim? (I noticed the way her backpack resembled a tank...)

yeah, i assume so. i never asked, but a friend of mine who is muslim said it was more than likely (apparently half an hour per prayer session is a touch excessive). other conversations for the day included why sex before marriage is wrong, and gay people are just really wrong.

Muslim prayers take between 10-15 minutes, that I've seen, including the time required for ablutions. If she's been praying for half hour sessions, it is excessive, but not impossible -- I'm guessing she's the type who pads the actual prayers with smaller prayers at the end, or likes doing extra rounds for some reason. Either way, it's ... suspiciously overt.

It still saddens me that regardless of how well-educated and exposed some of the people I knew growing up from similar liberal Muslim backgrounds were, there was always a roadblock at the end about adultery and homosexuality. It doesn't surprise me, and I'm able to respect that they have the right their POV, but it saddens me nonetheless.

i actually don't respect anyones POV that stops other people from living their natural lives. which is a kind've nasty contradiction, i suppose, but i try and live that little mess as well as i can.

i have to admit, in relation to this girl, i really have no idea if it's true or not. i met her once. removing the praying and anti gays and so forth, she was nice enough, but i only met her once. i'm hardly qualifying as an expert, y'know?

It's one of the drawbacks to freedom of expression. You do eventually realize the effects of people's rights, full-on, to disagree with you.

All things said and done, once with this girl sounded more than enough. She still sounds creepy. :)

i don't mind that they disagree. it's when they're like, 'no, you can't do this,' that it becomes a problem.

and yes, you are right about the girl. i never seem to meet the nice literate agnostic ones.

I think the real problem is when they go, "No, you can't do this," and turn out to be the political majority. One or two are actually still within the limits of my patience. The voting majority of a country on the other hand, somehow demands my respect, at least in terms of my position as a minority. Arguably, I could respect the majority so much, I just move out. :)

'Gayar page' should be 'Gaydar page', yeah?

But the comic has depicted you outside on several occasions. In my professional opinion, your UV exposure cause your online dating issues--it's obvious your computer was affected by the secondhand UV and thus directed you to Praying Woman.
