Today's Holy Shit Moment

Immigration Minister Chris Evans has ordered a review of his role, saying he feels the position has too much power.

Senator Evans has told a Parliamentary Committee there was a substantial increase in ministerial powers under the previous federal government and has commissioned a report into how that could be changed.

He says powers once used rarely in immigration matters have become the norm.

"I have formed the view that I have too much power, in terms of the power given to the minister to make decisions about individual cases," he said.

"I'm uncomfortable with that, not just because of concern about playing God, but also because of the lack of transparency and accountability for those decisions."

A government official said he had too much power? Do I read right here?

Any chance of putting him in a blender and injecting him into our US-ian elected officials?

yes, i'm not quite sure what's happening here in australia at the moment. i might almost might be ready to believe in a government that is humane and honest and does things for people.

maybe.

maybe a year from now.

Motivation: making Andrews look like shit over the Haneef affair. Should work fairly well.

Good thing we have a new one, since the original Jesus would have had basically no chance of getting elected. Can you imagine Him tolerating American party politics?

I'm a yellow dog Democrat this year (though officially registered No Party Affiliation because I can't tolerate American party politics either), so I don't really care whether Obama or Clinton gets the nomination, as long as they get it without foul play and we can then get them honestly into the White House.

i can't imagine any sane person tolerating politics, at all. which probably amounts to my complete disillusion and apathy on the subject.
