Tom Cruise Scientology Award Things

What I love is that the Mission Impossible music plays in the background of this the entire time.

The entire awards ceremony is here. It makes for some fascinating viewing. My favourite quotes belong to We Are the Authority, I reckon.

yeah, but really, the whole thing has a strange banana feel to it. i mean, he's intro is like an ET special.

What I love is that the Mission Impossible music plays in the background of this the entire time.

Not just any Mission Impossible theme - it's the lame 4/4 version for film, which was dumbed down because studio execs decided it was "too hard" for the demographic audience to listen to.

(The original Mission Impossible theme as Lalo Schifrin wrote it is in 5/4.)

i actually think this is the intro to the limp bizkit song, 'take a look around', which was in the film...

I don't know who performed it on the film/s - presumably a range of treatments throughout the score. You can clearly hear the music on the vid above is the Schifrin MI ostinato re-jigged to common time - not surprising if it was used as ground bass for a pop song (which I didn't know, but then I carefully avoid pop music).

Do they believe in hokey power, or is it more self-help, control your mind kind of thing? 'cos I've always found it funny that they are classified a cult in places like Germany, and evangelical Christians aren't. To be honest, they're still a bit loopy, but more respectable if it's all about being in charge of yourself.

I could, of course, be completely misunderstanding scientology!

"Being a Scientologist - when you drive past an accident, it's not like anyone else. As you drive past, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you're the only one that can really help."

I think he's confused Scientology and Superman.

Or maybe, EMT training is actually one long ST auditing session. That's why they say "clear" before they use a defibrillator!

First things first, you have to watch Battlefield Earth all the way through. Yeah, y'know, if they want a recruitment drive they might want to think about changing that... at least you know people are committed, I guess...
