Cover Previews

Been meaning to post the cover for this for a while, since my name is on the cover, and that's a first. Maybe Bill and Michelle will have changed that by the time the book comes out in October, but still, in theory, I have now progressed to a point where people think my name helps sell a book.

Which is certainly odd, yes.

You mean dwarves, don't you?
benpeek

no, hobbits. a dwarf is kinda stupid, not as stupid as a hobbit. maybe it's the beard.

Hum.

Neal Stephenson lied! He said dwarves were the ones who got down and dirty and did stuff while stupid Hobbits did fuck-all. He must have had a DM with a grudge back in his RPGing days.

Fantastic...I love seeing foreign artists get what little cover work there is here.

Re: Cover art
I get paid so fucking pathetically nothing for covers...what's the bet the editors actually paid money for this cover. I am so fucking over being reamed by publishers. Fucking Penguin are still ripping me off years after I told them to get fucked...their art director is now passing on my rejected cover designs to other artists. I've just discovered Les Petersen has painted covers that are identical to roughs I did for other books. You had no idea? Nobody has any idea! I just did the third Daikaiju cover....after two other US artists got the nod first. It's not like they did better or worse artwork than me. Bob Eggleton goes "I'll do it (the first cover)for free"...he gets hundreds of covers so he can afford it. I'm lucky to see a single cover a year. I don't want fucking awards and shit...I want to paint covers. Fuck the accolades. I'm really fucking angry. This is not a career.

Re: Cover art
Grrr....is it just me...or is there something really wrong with a Year's Best Australian collection illustrated by someone in Croatia? I know I'm sounding like a raving loony...but I listen to all you writers out there raving about stuff all the time. There are so many avenues for you guys to publish your stories, and so few for us artists. I'm really over it.

Re: Cover art
it'd be more in keeping to see it illustrated by an australian, i agree. tell you what, though, i'll email you in a sec...
