The Strange Death of Liberal England

Cool name for a band, huh?

They have a seven inch EP out, from what I understand, but it doesn't do much for me since I've never owned a record player. No album as yet. I, of course, nicked this off Warren Ellis (warren_ellis) cause he's good for a bit of music every now and then. Also, pictures of bloody, insect cover cocks.

Liked the name. Didn't care for the single.

They're supporting The Maps at the ICA next week. I'm a member there, may head down and see how they are live.

Still haven't had as pleasant a surprise as The Drones. (The Decemberists were good, but that didn't surprise me.)

i haven't seen live music for months. it's sad, really. i should go.

I know the feeling. I intend to go far more than I do. The Fratellis were average. The Shins were disappointing. Dave Matthews (solo) was whiney and astute - I liked. The Drones just rocked. The Decemberists were ballad-tastic, and Ben Folds gave good piano. Actually I've been more than I thought recently... hmm!

unfortunately, my friend d, who i would go and see gigs with, moved to melbourne recently, and there's been no one to replace him. i really have to work on it--i considered seeing the drones here a couple of weeks ago, but going to gigs by yourself kinda sucks.

Tell me about it. I saw The Decemberists on my own after people dropped out. I had two spare tickets to The Drones, too, and only one mate there!

I'm not convinced by The Maps (half priced Thom Yorke, I think), so don't think I'll make it to Strange Death as they're only supporting.

i saw bluebottle kiss on my own after a friend got sick. good gig, but painful in a social way, especially between sets.

anyhow, fair enough on the maps. i haven't heard them, myself.

Me neither. Just found a live demonstration here, on the ICA's website.

You might like the ICA, man. It's the best membership I've ever bought. Really great place. Just check out this month's What's On to see what I mean. I don't mind pretentious, if it's good, and it tends to be at the ICA.

hmm. i'm not thinking much of maps, i have to say.

ICA seems alright. though i have a habit of disappearing and not going to places like that, unless someone makes me.

Stand up!
Ben, I'd encourage you to stand on your own.

Folk can think you're a shit regardless of whether you're alone or with others.

No need to miss what are likely to be a few opportunities in your lifetime just to save face.

Re: Stand up!
dude, what are you talking about? if this is about going to gigs by yourself, they're just not as cool without someone round to share it with. it's no big deal--if there was a gig i wanted to see bad enough i'd toss in alone for it. if this is something else, you're going to have to fill me in.

Re: Stand up!
No secret messages intended.

Just sayin' that you should go regardless of whether someone is able to go with you or not.

Just a word of encouragement.

Which just struck me. Folk will say silly things like there's no 'I' in team. But there's 'rage' in encouragement. But no one ever seems to use that one. At any rate, not trying to enrage you either.
