Arcade Fire's new album, Neon Bible, is really good.

You're the first person I've heard say that.

i think it's better than FUNERAL, honestly.

Wow, I clearly need to listen to it with undivided attention rather than just hearing it in the overhead mix in the store.

To add to that, can you verbalize what you like about it, or even what you like better about it than Funeral, or is it one of those unspoken things? Because I rather hate it most times when someone asks me to describe why I like a band or album because I find music so often difficult to put into any sort of words.

i'm not the best at explaining what i like about music--it tends to work for me, or it doesn't. but, at a push, i'd say that it takes the foundation laid out in FUNERAL, and builds upon it.

of course, that said, i'm only into the sixth or seventh spin of it. but i think i'll be playing it until i begin writing.

Okay, I have to say, I'm listening to it now after a download, and I'm liking it far better, listening to it individually and in order, than I did hearing it in the overhead. I don't know yet that I like it better than Funeral, that's still debatable, but I'll see what becomes of it over subsequent listens. Thanks for prompting me to give it a second chance. I'm thankful.

There's a phosphorescent Koran thing there, but it's something my mother would say, and that makes it immediately unfunny.

your mum should get a livejournal account, then, so she can leave comments ;)

also, for some reason, i can just imagine the whole album being played in a tiny, tacky little church where a neon bible hangs over the entrance. that's the vibe from the album and i dig that.

I love when they go pure Bruce Springsteen on (Antichrist Television Blues). They do it so much better than the Killers.

springsteen? man, i didn't catch that. possibly cause i dislike springsteen. but it's way better than the killers. way way.

I wonder if its named for the John Kennedy Toole novel? That was a good book.

it's always literature with you, isn't it, cat?

it's good title. didn't know it was a book--worth the look?

well, I read it over 20 years ago and I can still recall many details out of it so yes, worth a look. Although A Confederacy of Dunces is his masterpiece. And will remain so since the author topped himself.

i've never read dunces. i should, really, or at least give it a look in.

you should indeed. Its a brilliant book full of hideous characters.

The Arcade Fire is playing Portland May 27 and the cheapest ticket I can find is $85.

And you have to sit in an orderly row to listen...

that he does.

eight five bucks sucks, too. i have trouble paying that kind of cash for any band live. it usually means big stadiums, big audiences, and low enjoyment.

yeah. tell me about it. i just saw the Mars Volta for $70. was good, but not mindblowingly good. 3 months late with a new drummer. kinda spoilt the moment for me.

but, anyway, thanks for helping to galvanize the idea of buying neon bible. i've been listening to funeral non-stop for the last 3 weeks... kind of a mental build-up to see weather or not the purchase will be justified.

well, a week after purchasing it, i still dig it. i can't say it's a better album than FUNERAL (which i thought it might be earlier) but it's still cool.
