Hong Kong Density

Here is a whole lot of cool urban density shots out of Hong Kong by photographer Michael Wolf.

This is my favourite. It looks like the buildings have been cocooned. The future, it says, in the whispery, cold winded future, we will all be living in buildings that need to be cocooned in fibres to keep the pollution for passing through; to keep the air from we need from entering out lungs and disintegrating our organs with their little touches. We will live in buildings that have more in common with coffins at a funeral than anything that is life.

After viewing the gallery....

The American in me says: Oh my, people packed into concrete boxes. I would never want to live in this human beehive.

The Russian in me says: Goddamn Hong Kong but everybody's got an air conditioning unit! Dammit all to hell. That's just not fair!

don't americans live in apartment blocks like that, though? i thought that's what 'the projects' looked like? (i seem to remember seeing something very similar in a film called GIRL FIGHT)

Dude, I've been there, and it's even more intimidating in person. What's really cool is that they use bamboo for scaffolding, so that no matter where you go in the city, you're surrounded by bamboo.

Damn skippy.

I'm a sucker for style-over-content although I do reckon the story is a pretty damn good one but I utterly loved that film. It was one of those times that you are caught out by how good something is. I had an unlimited cinema subcription and went there one afternoon, it was starting at the time so i just went in with no clue as to what it was about and was blown away. It's filled with pieces like buildings covered in plastic and biohazard teams spraying people in the background and pictures of lost people pinned up by their families anywhere but there is never any explanation as to WHY or what it all means.

"We will live in buildings that have more in common with coffins at a funeral than anything that is life."

Good line.

They also almost look like the walls of a castle. One curving wall, not seperate entities. Makes me wonder what kind of castle.
