Aurealis Awards

Well. This is a bit of a surprise. Apparently, my story 'Dr Who (or the Day I Learnt to Love Tom Baker)', a comedy about a boy, his father, his father's girlfriend, and a cardboard cut out of Tom Baker, has been nominated for an Aurealis Award.

In the horror category.

Horror or no (I take it that was unexpected), nominations for awards are GOOD things! Congrats!

actually, the whole thing was unexpected. i thought the anthology was disliked by most people, and since it came out at the end of last year, i figured most would just ignore it.

so, you know, it's a surprise on all levels.

i think you should read this, apparently, amazing example of horror.

once you're done, you can marvel at the nomination even more. i think i can see jesus' face in it...

Tom Baker. the BEST Dr. Who of all. Who wouldn't want that scarf, and coat, and small white bag of jelly babies? Anyhoo, congrats. Would love to read the story.

oddly, i kind of dislike dr who. i don't get it. the scarf, the coat, the lack of anything cool... i just don't get it.

still, thanks.

the story is in an anthology called FOREVER SHORES, edited by peter mcnamara and margaret winch. you should be able to find copies round, i reckon. if i had an edited copy of the story, i'd just email it to you, but the copy i have is a bit of a mess. the version in the book is much cleaner and with all the crossed and dotted bits. (the antho is also a not bad intro into the fantasy scene of australia, i reckon, and if you're curious about this stuff. better things than my little story in it.)

i suspect that the people behind it are big dr who fans, or they have a tom baker phobia. that's my current pair of theories.

but thank you anyhow.
