Ditmar Nomination.

it's that time of the year again: ditmar nomination.

for those of you who don't know what a ditmar is--and lets be honest, outside the local australian speculative fiction scene, few people do--the ditmar is a local award where basically anyone can stroll in and nominate the work written by an australian that they read during the year and liked. which means if you live in japan, and read k j bishop's fine novel the etched city, and want to see that she gets something for it, then this is the place for you. if enough people vote and she gets nominated, then in canberra at the end of april, everyone at conflux will form tiny voting blocks and battle each other with bamboo sticks in a battle royale kind of thing to see who wins.

you're probably thinking to yourself, right now, that you're tired of voting in systems where you can't have a say, and where your vote means nothing. i know how you feel. what's the point of voting when you only have two choices, and they're both the same kind of conservative ugliness? why don't you just go and swallow drain cleaner right now, you're thinking, because the world is pretty fucked up in its voting systems. (well, maybe it's just me who thinks that every time an election rolls around.)

well, this is your chance to have a say, without having to use money or sex, and help some lesser known australian writers (like myself) get some free publicity for their work. all you need to do is fill in the following form and send it to ditmars@NOSPAMconflux.org.au (removing the capitals, naturally).

lastly, some specifics:

the date to fill in this form is the 13th of feb. anyone who is interested will probably do it right now, but i figure it's worth saying anyhow.

if you've only read a couple of things, and want to vote for them, go ahead. you don't have to fill in all categories.

if you need a referee (to ensure the powers that be that you're a real person, for a partially fake one) feel free to list my name.

if you want to vote for me, because you want to show the love, as they say, i published only a small amount this year, which was two short stories. (i did sell four, though, three of which should be out some time this year.)

anyhow, those two stories were:

'Dr Who? (Or the Day I Learnt to Love Tom Baker)' in Forever Shores, edited by Peter McNamara and Margaret Winch, and published by Wakefield Press.

'the Recipe' in Elsewhere, edited by Michael Barry, and published by CSFG.

which just about brings us to an end for this post.
